Visit of the HOC to California State University Sacramento ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games

The Hellenic Olympic Committee visited California State University, Sacramento as part of its ongoing efforts to secure the best possible conditions for the preparation of Greek Olympic athletes ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The delegation, led by President Isidoros Kouvelos, Secretary General Stefanos Chandakas, LA28 Chef de Mission Petros Synadinos, together with Head of the President’s Office Alexandra Karaiskou and SEGAS Technical Advisor Lambros Papakostas, toured the university’s extensive sports facilities, which are expected to play an important role in the preparation of Greek athletes for Los Angeles 2028.

These facilities can support athletes from various Olympic sports, including athletics and many others, while also offering accommodation and dining services, enabling athletes to train in a stable, organized, and high-level environment.

For rowing, a significant training base is expected to be secured at the Natomas Aquatic Center, which can provide valuable preparation conditions for Greek rowers ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The delegation was also guided through the university’s impressive library, which was created thanks to the vision and generosity of Angelo Tsakopoulos. It is a landmark center of knowledge, culture, and Greek contribution to education in the United States. The visit once again highlighted the strong role of the Greek Diaspora in building bridges between Greece and America, not only in culture and education, but also in sport and Olympism.

The Hellenic Olympic Committee is working systematically to facilitate the preparation of Greek athletes for LA28 by identifying suitable training bases, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that Team Hellas will have access to the conditions required for high-level athletic performance.

An official dinner in honor of the delegation of the Hellenic Olympic Committee was hosted by distinguished Greek-American philanthropist and great friend of Greece, Angelo Tsakopoulos, with the participation of prominent members of the Greek-American community of Sacramento.

During the dinner, the strong bond between the Greek Diaspora and Greece was once again reaffirmed, as well as the willingness of Greek-Americans to actively support the efforts of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and Team Hellas ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
