The Hellenic Olympic Committee presented Its program to the Greek-American Community of San Francisco ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games
The delegation was led by the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Isidoros Kouvelos, accompanied by the HOC Secretary General, Stefanos Chandakas, the Chef de Mission of the Greek Olympic Team for LA28, Petros Synadinos, and Head of the President’s Office, Alexandra Karaiskou.
During the meeting, Mr. Kouvelos presented the program and key priorities of the Hellenic Olympic Committee for the coming period, focusing on supporting Greek athletes, upgrading critical sports facilities, and ensuring the best possible preparation for Team Hellas ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The HOC President emphasized that the Olympic Games are inseparably linked to Greece’s history, identity, and global contribution, stressing that this great legacy must be honored through action, unity, and meaningful support for the athletes representing the country.
Special reference was made to the infrastructure projects currently being implemented by the HOC, including the renovation of the Olympic Rowing Centre at Schinias Olympic Rowing and Canoeing Centre, the Olympic Swimming Pool of Athens, and the historic Panathenaic Stadium. These projects are progressing thanks to the contribution of donors and supporters who share the HOC’s vision for the revitalization and strengthening of Greek sport.
Mr. Kouvelos called on donors, partners, and friends of Greece to support the initiatives of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, noting that supporting Greek athletes is an investment in the new generation, Greek sport, and the international image of the country.
Particular emphasis was placed on the decisive role of the Greek Diaspora, which has consistently stood alongside the Greek Olympic Team during Olympic Games held in the United States. With the Games returning to California in 2028, the HOC President called on the Greek-American community to actively participate in the national effort to support Team Hellas and help ensure that Greek athletes feel the strength and warmth of Hellenism when they arrive in Los Angeles.
The response from the Greek-American community was especially warm and encouraging, with many attendees expressing genuine interest in the HOC’s initiatives and their willingness to contribute to this effort. Their response once again confirmed the strong bond between the Greek Diaspora and Greece, Greek sport, and the country’s Olympic Team.
