The HOC participates in the European project OCEAN

The President of the HOC Spyros Capralos attended the kick-off event of the OCEAN (Olympic Committees of Europe Approaching Carbon Neutrality) project in which the Hellenic Olympic Committee participates. The event was held at the ΕU Office of the European Olympic Committees in Brussels. Also also present were the Chair of the Sports and Environment Commission of the HOC, Alexandra Palli, and the Climate Officer of the HOC Olga Osypenko.
The OCEAN project involves 18 European National Olympic Committees, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) and experts from the Öko-Institut. The OCEAN project is co-financed by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ program. All participants of the kick-off event traveled by public transportation (metro) during their stay in Brussels setting an example for reducing environmental impact and lowering carbon emissions.

Spyros Capralos commented on his decision to use the metro as follows: “The sports family urgently needs to embrace the guidelines of the Olympic Movement, which establish the urgent need and commitment to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions”.
