HOC President Isidoros Kouvelos presents the vision for Team Hellas on the road to Los Angeles 2028

The President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Mr Isidoros Kouvelos, participated in the National Hellenic Society Heritage Weekend in Washington, D.C., one of the leading annual gatherings of the Greek-American community in the United States.

Mrs Dora Bakoyannis also took part in the programme, contributing to an important keynote discussion that highlighted the strength of Hellenic identity, the role of the Greek-American community, and the lasting values that connect Greece with the United States. Her presence added particular institutional and symbolic weight to a gathering that brought together distinguished representatives of Hellenism, public life, culture and leadership.

In his keynote address, Mr Kouvelos sent a strong message of unity, responsibility and shared national purpose, calling on Hellenism in America to become an active part of Greece’s Olympic journey toward Los Angeles 2028.

Speaking before distinguished members and friends of the National Hellenic Society, the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee referred to the deep bonds that connect Greece and the United States through timeless ideas such as democracy, citizenship, human dignity, excellence and responsibility. He underlined that, among the great ideas born in Greece, the Olympic Idea holds a special place, as it now belongs to every nation, every culture and every generation.

Presenting the new philosophy of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Mr Kouvelos explained that the central goal is to build an organisation that is stronger, more independent, more outward-looking and, above all, closer to the athlete.

A key part of the address focused on the road to Los Angeles 2028 and on the need to mobilise the strength of Hellenism in America in support of Team Hellas.

The presence of the Hellenic Olympic Committee at the National Hellenic Society Heritage Weekend marked an important step in strengthening the bond between Greece, the Greek-American community and Team Hellas. It also reaffirmed the HOC’s strategic direction: to honour Greece’s Olympic heritage by investing in its athletes, its Olympic venues and its future.
