In the shot put final, Greece had a double participation since after Miltiadis Gouskos and Giorgos Papasideris had exceeded the qualifying limit set at 10.00. The Greek champion was ranked third with a throw of 10.36, behind Garrett (USA) 11.22 and Gouskos (Greece) 11.03. He also participated in a second sport, in the same event, lifting weights with two hands, where he took fourth place with 90kg.
