Gold medal, September 3, 1904, Pericles Kakousis cat. heavyweights. St. Louis 1904

The Greek champion traveled at the last minute to the United States, more precisely to St. Louis, together with the discus thrower Georgandas, the only two participants from our country. The cost of the long trip was covered by sponsors, and in the end Greece prevailed. Pericles Kakousis showed his superiority from the first moment and won the gold medal with incredible ease. His opponents, three American athletes who ultimately just watched Kakousis on his way to victory, were knocked out of the race very early on.

The athlete of the Panhellenic AC lifted 111 kg and 700 grams, while the second, the American Oscar Osthoff, remained far behind him with 84 kg and 370 grams. The final ranking: Kakousis(Greece) 111.70 Osthoff (USA) 84.37 Kugler (USA) 79.61 Olson (USA) 67.81
