HOC General Assembly unanimously nominates President Capralos to renew EOC mandate

The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) General Assembly has unanimously voted in favour of nominating President Spyros Capralos to run for a second term as President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC).

After receiving the full support of the HOC membership, President Capralos will stand for a second four-year term as EOC President at its Elective General Assembly to be held in Frankfurt, Germany, from 28 February to 1 March 2025.

President Capralos was elected as President of the EOC in 2021. Under his leadership the EOC has provided increased support to Europe’s National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and managed a successful 2023 European Games in Kraków-Małopolska, as well as two Summer and Winter European Youth Olympic Festivals. The EOC has delivered a strong pipeline of future hosts, including Istanbul as host of the 2027 European Games. A comprehensive strategic plan has also been adopted to guide the organisation’s work, with significant reforms implemented to improve the EOC’s governance and a new CEO recently appointed.

President Capralos, who has led the HOC since 2009 and was elected as an IOC member in 2019, expressed his gratitude to the HOC General Assembly for its backing.

“I am extremely honoured to receive this unanimous support from the Hellenic Olympic Committee’s members to run for a second term as President of the EOC. I am very proud of what we have achieved for the European NOCs since I became EOC President in 2021, and the EOC is in a very strong position to ensure we make the most of what is such an exciting time for European sport,” President Capralos said.

“It is a great privilege to have led the HOC and the EOC with the confidence of members, and I remain determined to continue serving the Olympic Movement in the years ahead.”
