The Olympic Flame arrived in Piraeus

The Olympic Flame arrived in Piraeus and illuminated the Municipal Theatre, at the end of the 2nd day of the Olympic Torch Relay.

A welcoming ceremony for the Olympic Flame was held in the courtyard of the Piraeus Municipal Theater, where the Mayor of Piraeus, Yiannis Moralis, lit the altar.

Among the torchbearers were the Minister of Labour, Domna Michailidou, the Olympic champion Virginie Kavarioti, the international water polo players Margarita, Eleftheria, Vaso Pleuritou, the former footballer of Olympiacos, Elias Yfantidis, the Deputy Regional Governor of Piraeus Stavroula Antonakou, the Ceremony Master of the Olympic Flame Yannis Papadimitriou, and the Paralympian Alexandra Stamatopoulou.

On the morning of April 17, the Olympic Flame started its journey from Pylos, passed the International Olympic Academy Golf Course in Navarino Hills, continued to Methoni, Sparta, Tegea, Tripoli, Mykines, Nafplio, the stadium of Ancient Nemea where the torchbearer was the captain of the National football team, Tasos Bakasetas, before ending up in Piraeus.

Everywhere, the squares and streets were full of people who wanted to see the Light of Olympism up close and experience the Torch Relay.
