Hellenic Olympic Committee raises White Card
The Hellenic Olympic Committee celebrated the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace at the Panathenaicon Stadium following the initiative of the Gender Equality Committee of the HOC.
This Day was established by the UN and the International Olympic Committee and is celebrated every year on April 6.
First, the Plenary of the Hellenic Olympic Committee raised the #whitecard during their latest meeting! A special event at the Panathenaicon stadium followed where the President of the HOC Mr. Spyros Capralos, the General Secretary Mrs. Emmanuel Kolympadis and Ms. Vassiliki Millousi, President of the Gender Equality Committee together with Olympic winners and the pupils of the 6th Primary School of Nea Smyrni who participated in the “Kids’ Athletics – I love Sports” program of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, raised the #whitecard in a different way.
A dialogue was held with the children about the Olympic Values and all together they raised a large white cloth inside the Panathenaicon Stadium, sending a great message of peace and unity to the entire Olympic family.
The President of the HOC and President of the European Olympic Committees Spyros Capralos said: “The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace aims to highlight the importance of sport in the prevalence of peace and reconciliation in the world and in the fight against discrimination of all forms, of prejudices, fear and misunderstandings, which contribute to human development. The Hellenic Olympic Committee joins the celebration with this event at the iconic Panathenaicon Stadium, with children sending the message of peace to every corner of the planet.”
“Celebrating Peace through Sports! All of us together raise the #whitecard through the Panathenaicon Stadium, for peaceful sport that highlights Olympic values and Olympic ideals” said the President of the Committee for Gender Equality, Vasiliki Millousi.
