Update on the Handover Ceremony of the Olympic Flame Tokyo 2020

In view of the Handover ceremony of  the Olympic Flame to the “Tokyo 2020” Organizing Committee, on Thursday, March 19, at 11.30 am, following the State’s recommendations to combat the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the Hellenic Olympic Committee announces the following.
The Handover Ceremony will take place in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mrs. Katerina Sakellaropoulou and of a small delegation of the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee.
There will be a dance of the Priestesses that will not exceed the number of 10, and a Torch Relay of two Greek torchbearers (Katerina Stefanidi, Lefteris Petrounias) and two Japanese torchbearers, that will take place inside the Panathenaic Stadium.
The Panathenaic Stadium will be closed to the public. The right holding broadcasters are: the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT), the Japanese Channel, the Olympic Channel (OBS), as well as 20 Japanese journalists and photographers selected by the “Tokyo 2020” Organizing Committee.
The Agence France-Presse (AFP) and the photo agency Eurokinissi will cover the needs of foreign and Greek photographers and pictures will be distributed in the pool.
