Actress Katerina Misichroni is the new High Priestess for the Olympic Flame Ceremonies
Acclaimed Greek actress and dancer Katerina Misichroni has been appointed as the new High Priestess for the Olympic Flame Ceremonies of the upcoming Olympic cycle. Her selection followed a review of several candidates for the role and was based on her experience, and distinguished artistic career.
The proposal was submitted by the President of the Olympic Torch Relay Commission, Thomas Tokas, and was unanimously approved by the Plenary Session of the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) during its most recent meeting. Following the decision, HOC President Isidoros Kouvelos invited Katerina Misichroni to the Committee’s headquarters to personally inform her of the appointment.
“I would like to welcome you to the Olympic family, and we are particularly pleased with your selection. I believe that you will fulfill in an exemplary manner the highly symbolic and essential role of the High Priestess, which is of great significance both for the Olympic Movement and for Greece. I am confident that you will have an excellent collaboration with our Choreographer, Artemis Ignatiou, culminating in the Olympic Flame Ceremonies for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. I wish you every success,” Mr. Kouvelos told the new High Priestess.
Responding to Mr. Kouvelos, Katerina Misichroni said: “It is a great honor and joy for me to undertake the role of High Priestess, and I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your trust. I will serve this role with all the strength of my soul and hope that I will live up to your expectations. I look forward to the moment when we begin rehearsals for the Olympic Flame Ceremonies.”
The Choreographer of the Olympic Flame Ceremonies, Artemis Ignatiou, who was also present at the meeting, noted: “I am certain that we will have an excellent collaboration with the new High Priestess. Through her talent and her profound inner expression, Katerina will touch the hearts of people around the world, conveying the messages and values of Olympism.”
Katerina Misichroni will serve as High Priestess for the first time on September 10, during the Lighting and Handover Ceremony of the Flame for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, at the Panathenaic Stadium.
