The Hellenic Olympic Committee at The Hellenic Initiative dinner honoring Angelo Tsakopoulos
The delegation of the Hellenic Olympic Committee attended, upon invitation, the official dinner hosted by The Hellenic Initiative in Los Angeles.
The Hellenic Initiative is a global non-profit organization that mobilizes the Greek Diaspora and Philhellenes with the aim of supporting Greece, strengthening its economic recovery, philanthropy and development, and investing in the country’s future.
The central figure of the event was the distinguished Greek-American philanthropist Angelo Tsakopoulos, who was honored for his lifetime contribution to Hellenism, the Greek Diaspora, education, culture, and the strengthening of ties between Greece and the United States.
The event was introduced by the Lieutenant Governor of California, Eleni Kounalakis, who spoke warmly about the work of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the importance of the efforts being made to prepare and support Greek athletes ahead of LA28.
Particular attention was also drawn by the presence of Nancy Pelosi, one of the most prominent political figures in the United States and California. Ms. Pelosi, who was the first woman elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, gave special significance to the event and, through her presence, highlighted the important role of the Greek-American community in the public life of the United States.
The participation of the Hellenic Olympic Committee in the event forms part of the HOC’s broader effort to strengthen its ties with the Greek Diaspora in the United States and to engage friends, donors, and supporters of Greece on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
