Two years of “Together in Sport-Phase II”

Two years have already passed since the launch of the second phase of the EU-funded project “Together in Sport” (15/9/23-14/9/26), implemented by the Hellenic Olympic Committee, in cooperation with METAdrasi (Project coordinator) and the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

“Together in Sport-Phase II” offers minors and young adults from third countries, asylum seekers, refugees, locals, including people with disabilities, the opportunity to participate, free of charge, in a sports and cultural program.  The project aims to promote social cohesion through inclusive sports and recreational activities.

To date, more than 8.000 children and youngsters (50% of whom are refugees and third-country nationals, incl. unaccompanied minors) have benefited from the project.

Key milestones of “Together in Sport-Phase II”:

  • Conduct of 80 one-off sports events
  • Conduct of weekly training sessions in Athens, Piraeus, Kallithea, Tanagra and Mytilene
  • Introduction to 32 Olympic sports
  • Voluntary participation of 125 certified coaches
  • Voluntary participation of 24 Olympians and 46 elite athletes
  • Voluntary participation of 5 facilitators of refugee and migrant origin
  • Delivery of 12 workshops on topics such as Safety Protocols in Sport, Child Protection, First Aid and CPR, Psychological First Aid and Crisis Management within a sport team
  • Donations of sports equipment worth 9.933,52€ to cooperating municipalities, schools, sports clubs and refugee reception facilities
  • Collaboration with the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, the Sports Office of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Municipalities (Athens, Piraeus, Tanagra and Mytilene), schools, sports federations and sports clubs that hosted project activities or offered free enrollment to project beneficiaries in their classes.

For the 2025-2026 sports season, free weekly training sessions are offered in:

Athens

  • Football, 12-17 years old, Plato’s Academy
  • Kick Boxing, 14-16 years old, Kypseli – “Fighting Global Team” sports club

Piraeus

  • Taekwondo, 12-17 years old, Municipal Hall, Veikou Street, Neo Faliro
  • Acrobatic Gymnastics, 12-17 years old, Municipal Hall, Veikou Street, Neo Faliro

Kallithea

  • Cricket, 18-21 years old, 5×5 Municipal Pitch, P. Tsaldari & Fornezi Streets

Tanagra

  • Track and Field, 8-15 years old, Municipal Stadium “Evangelos Depastas”
  • Kick Boxing, 7-17 years old, Cultural Center – “Demosthenes Liapis” Hall, Oinofyta

Mytilene

  • Track and field, 12-17 years old, Municipal Stadium of Mytilene
  • Volley, 12-17 years old, Indoor Stadium of Pamfila
