The Secretary General of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), Mohammed Hasan Jalood Al-Shammari, visited the Hellenic Olympic Committee together with Board Member and Olympian Pyrros Dimas, and members of the IWF Board.
They were received by the President of the HOC and IOC Member Spyros Capralos, as well as the Secretary General Manolis Kolimbadis, and they discussed issues related to the sport of weightlifting.
Mr. Al-Shammari analyzed all the initiatives taken by the IWF to consolidate the sport and its proper management, by adopting special practices against the use of banned substances. He also spoke about the organization of weightlifting in the program of the next European Games, which will be held in Krakow-Malopoltska in 2023.
Finally, the Secretary General of the International Weightlifting Federation proposed the establishment of a training academy for weightlifters under the name “Pyrros Dimas” in Ancient Olympia.
President Spyros Capralos expressed his support for all the issues discussed and, in his capacity as a member of the IOC and President of the European Olympic Committees, stressed the particular importance of the efforts made worldwide to consolidate the sport.
