
The Olympic Torch Relay in Greece for the Winter Olympic Games “Milano-Cortina 2026”
Six months before the Lighting Ceremony of the Olympic Flame for the Winter Olympic Games “Milano-Cortina 2026” on November 26, 2025, the Hellenic Olympic Committee announces the Greek leg of the Olympic Torch Relay, which will last until December 4.
The relay across Greece will last 9 days, covering 2,200 kilometers, crossing 23 regional units and 7 regions of the country. During this time, 36 welcoming ceremonies will take place.
The Olympic Flame will pass through key destinations in mainland Greece, highlighting not only the country’s cultural heritage but also its connection to winter sports and mountainous destinations. The route is designed to reach areas where the 12 largest ski resorts in Greece are located, highlighting the country’s breathtaking natural landscapes and its strong potential for winter tourism.
The Olympic Flame will be carried by approximately 450 torchbearers and accompanied by a convoy of 15 vehicles sponsored by the partner company TOYOTA, as well as around 40 staff members of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, ensuring the smooth execution of this significant mission.

More specifically, the Flame will begin its journey in Ancient Olympia and gradually travel through cities and areas such as: Pyrgos, Amaliada, Kalavryta, Patras, Agrinio, Karpenisi, Metsovo, Kozani, Kastoria, Florina, Naousa, Serres, Drama, Thessaloniki, Lamia, Arachova, Livadia, Athens, ending at the Panathenaic Stadium on December 4, 2025, for the Handover Ceremony to the Milano-Cortina 2026 Organizing Committee, marking the start of its journey to Italy until the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics on February 6, 2026.
On the occasion of announcing the route to the Plenary of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, President Isidoros Kouvelos stated:
“Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, once again has the honor and responsibility to light and deliver the Olympic Flame to the world. With absolute respect for tradition and the ideals of Olympism, we undertake a mission that connects the past with the present and the future. Through the Flame’s journey across the country, messages of peace, unity, and solidarity are carried, values that today, more than ever, the international community needs. The Olympic Flame reminds us that, despite the challenges, there is always a light that can inspire and unite people.”
Presenting the final route to the Plenary members of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the President of the Olympic Torch Relay, Thomas Tokas, stated:
“The responsibility of carrying out such a large and demanding project is immense, but we undertake it with joy and pride. The Olympic Torch Relay is a unique opportunity to promote our country internationally, reminding everyone that the Olympic Games were born here, in Greece.
Municipalities and ordinary citizens in every corner of the country are eagerly awaiting to welcome the Flame and host it with honor in their communities. It is this involvement of society that gives true meaning and strength to the journey of the Flame.”
