The meetings of the Hellenic Olympic Committee in Long Beach about the Hellenic Olympic House
The delegation of the Hellenic Olympic Committee carried out a working visit to Long Beach, one of the main host cities of the 2028 Olympic Games, where the Greek diaspora has traditionally maintained a strong presence. The visit focused on operational coordination for the accommodation of Team Hellas, transportation of athletes and equipment, as well as the development of synergies with local authorities and sponsorship partners.
During a meeting at Long Beach City Hall, the delegation held substantive discussions with the Deputy Mayor and municipal representatives responsible for Olympic Games planning, addressing key issues such as accommodation and transportation for athletes and staff, entry/exit procedures and equipment logistics through the Port of Long Beach, as well as opportunities for co-funding Greek cultural and promotional events.
The program also included site visits to sports venues for sailing, rowing and canoeing, water polo, and shooting. As part of the visit, the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Isidoros Kouvelos, gave an interview to NBC, highlighting Greece’s historic connection with the Olympic Movement and the positive momentum the Games can bring to California.
A key point of the mission was the visit to the site where the Hellenic Olympic House will be established. In a dedicated meeting, the first implementation steps were agreed upon, and the framework of the strategic plan was defined.
As the President of the HOC stated:
“We are working early and methodically so that Greece’s presence in Long Beach in 2028 will be exemplary in organization and inspiring in content. Our cooperation with the City and local stakeholders is progressing in an excellent atmosphere. The Hellenic Olympic House will be the place where tradition meets innovation. We want every visitor — from athletes and members of the Olympic family to the Greek community and friends of Greece — to experience an event that highlights Olympic Values, extroversion, and modern Greek creativity.”
Along with Mr. Kouvelos, the delegation included Secretary General Stefanos Chandakas, Chef de Mission for Los Angeles 2028 Petros Synadinos, and Alexandra Karaiskou from the President’s Office.
