HOC’s visit to the venues of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games
The delegation of the Hellenic Olympic Committee is successfully continuing its official visit to Los Angeles in view of the 2028 Olympic Games. The second day of the program included a special experience at the SOFI Stadium, the impressive venue that will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic Games, as well as the swimming competitions.
The organizers presented to President Isidoros Kouvelos, Secretary General Stefanos Chandakas, Chef de Mission for Los Angeles 2028 Petros Synadinos, and Alexandra Karaiskou from the President’s Office the plans for the stadium’s remarkable transformation into an aquatic arena, revealing the technological innovations and architectural adaptations that will make SOFI Stadium a unique venue for hosting aquatic sports.
Subsequently, the Greek delegation visited UCLA University, where meetings were held with officials responsible for Olympic facilities to explore accommodation options for the Hellenic Olympic Team during the Games. The discussions took place in a positive atmosphere, with particular emphasis on ensuring comfortable and functional living spaces for Greek athletes.
The day concluded with a warm gathering of members of the Greek-American community and representatives of the Hollywood entertainment industry, hosted by Mr. Jim Gianopulos, who served for over 30 years as President of Paramount Pictures, and his sister, Mrs. Despina Gianopulos. The meeting was also attended by Maria Menounos, ambassador of the HOC for the Greek Olympic Team, as well as the well-known actress Nia Vardalos. The event took place in an especially cordial atmosphere, confirming the strong bonds that unite the Greek diaspora with Greece and the Olympic Movement.
