HOC President Spyros Capralos welcomes LEN President Antonio Jose Silva

The President of the European Aquatics Federation (LEN) Antonio Jose Silva visited today the headquarters of the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) together with the President of the Hellenic Swimming Federation and Vice President of LEN Kyriakos Giannopoulos. They were received in a very friendly atmosphere by the HOC President and IOC member Spyros Capralos, who first guided them through the premises of the HOC while explaining the role and activities of HOC in the development of Greek sports.

After the tour, Mr. Capralos warmly congratulated the President of LEN on his recent election to the highest office of the European Aquatics Federation, after which, in his capacity as President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC), spoke with Mr. Silva and Mr. Giannopoulos about the possibility of the participation of the aquatics in European competitions. In particular, Mr. Silva expressed the desire to include aquatics in the European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023.

Mr. Silva informed the President of the EOC, that on April 14, 2022, he and FINA President Mr. Husain Al-Mussallam will hold a meeting with the Polish high authorities: the Prime Minister, the Minister of Sports and the President of the Polish Swimming Federation to discuss and possibly approve the inclusion of some aquatics such as Artistic Swimming and Diving, given the inauguration of a new swimming pool outside the city of Krakow, which has all the infrastructure to host these competitions.

Mr. Capralos welcomed this new development with great satisfaction and invited President Silva to the Flame of Peace Ceremony to be held in Rome on May 30, 2022, for the European Youth Olympic Festival Banska Bystrica 2022.

Mr. Silva sincerely thanked President Capralos for his warm hospitality and fervent support to the aquatics sports and invited him to the European Aquatics Championships to be held in Rome in August 2022 and the European Water Polo Games to be held in Split in September 2022.
