HOC continues its activities focusing on refugee children and aiming at social cohesion through sport

The Hellenic Olympic Committee continues its activities focusing on refugee children and aiming at social cohesion through sport in the framework of the Programme “Together in Sport”.
On the occasion of April 6, International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, 199 children participated in various sports activities in Ioannina, Kavala, and Athens. They trained together with their peers from local sports clubs and discovered several Olympic disciplines such as wrestling, handball, basketball, volleyball and athletics.
Thanks to the voluntary contribution and generous hospitality of the sports clubs Spartakos Ioannina, Kavala B.C. Basketball Academy, Bianco Monte Drama 1986 Handball and the support of the Hellenic Olympic Academy, the children shared pleasant sports experiences and sent their own message of peace and solidarity proving in the best way that sport unites people and bridges cultures.
The Hellenic Olympic Committee implements the ‘Together in Sport’ Program in collaboration with METAdrasi- Program Coordinator in Greece – and the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). The Program is funded by the European Asylum, Immigration and Integration Fund (TAME-AMIF) and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees of Germany Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge – BAMF .
