Celebrating Olympic Day with the Olympic Day Run of Ancient Olympia

A vibrant celebration of sport, peace, and Olympic values took place at the birthplace of the Olympic Games, as hundreds of runners from 80 countries around the world joined the Olympic Day Run in Ancient Olympia.
The event was proudly organized by the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki, in co-organization with the International Olympic Academy (IOA), the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC), and the Municipality of Ancient Olympia, bringing together participants of all ages and backgrounds in a unique symbolic run.
Commemorating Olympic Day, which marks the founding of the International Olympic Committee on June 23, 1894, the run was more than a race – it was a global call to action for unity, respect, and healthy living, echoing the timeless ideals of Olympism.
Starting from the sacred grounds of Ancient Olympia and running through historic landscapes, the event highlighted the deep connection between the Olympic Movement and its origins. Participants included athletes, students, Olympic fans, and visitors from around the globe, creating a joyful atmosphere filled with energy and inspiration.
In his welcoming remarks, the Mayor of Ancient Olympia Αristides Panayiotopoulos, emphasized the honor and symbolism of hosting the event in the land where the Olympic flame is born, while representatives from the HOC, IOA, and the Olympic Museum expressed their shared commitment to promoting Olympic values through education and active participation.
