Bronze medal, April 13, 1896, George Paraskevopoulos 12-hour run. Athens 1896

Originally 12 cyclists had announced their participation, but exactly half, six, including three Greeks, showed up for the start. The best performance on the Greek side was made by Giorgos Paraskevopoulos, who finished third, although there is no lack of information in the international bibliography that mentions that he abandoned the race at some point, as well as others that speak of his abandonment, but without giving an exact placing. The Austrian Adolf Schmal, a highly esteemed cyclist, won the race, followed by the Briton Keepping. According to the newspapers of the time, Schmall completed 945 laps on the bike course in 12 hours, Keepping one less and Paraskevopoulos 940. The final ranking: Schmall (Australia) Keeping (Great Britain) Paraskevopoulos (Greece).
