Nikos Morakis

Bronze medal, April 10, 1896, Nikos Morakis army pistol, 50m. Athens 1896
A total of 16 shooters from four countries participated in the army pistol shooting competition at 50m, but not all of them could finish their attempts. Most of them were Greeks, who were very disappointed when they saw the revolvers of the American brothers John and Summer Paine. They were of the most perfect type and, of course, offered the two athletes a tremendous advantage over the Greeks’ guns, which were at least 10 years old. The Paine brothers, John was a lieutenant in the army, took the first two places with ease and a large points gap, while in third place was Nikos Morakis, who had the best performance of the Greek team. He scored 205 points in 30 shots.
The final ranking: T. Paine (USA) 442 S. Paine (USA) 380 Morakis (Greece) 205 Frangoudis (Greece) Nielsen (Denmark)
