Silver medal, July 15, 1908, Michalis Dorizas, javelin throw. London 1908

At the Panhellenic Championships before the Olympic Games, Charalambos Zouras won the title with a throw of 53.95, while Michalis Dorizas was second with an effort of 53.89, only six centimeters behind. The ranking changed shortly after in London. Dorizas lived permanently in Constantinople and integrated into the Greek mission shortly before his departure. He was reportedly in good shape, and the prediction board published in Athens predicted him to finish first. Although the competition as a freestyle allowed athletes to throw the javelin with all kinds of grips, the best ones caught the javelin in the middle, as in the classical competition. This was also the reason for the abolition of the free javelin throw. Michalis Dorizas finally took the silver medal (51.36), as it was impossible to beat the Swedish world record holder Eric Lemming with 57.33.

The final Ranking: Lemming (Sweden) 54.45 Dorizas (Greece) 51.36 Halse (Norway) 49.73 Zouras (Greece) 48.61 Wieslander (Sweden) 47.55 Pesonen (Finland) 46.04 Mudin (Hungary) 45.95 Sauli (Finland) 43.31.
