Bronze medal, August 2, 2024, Rowing, lightweight double sculls. Paris 2024
Petros Gaidatzis and Antonis Papakonstantinou delivered an outstanding performance in the final of the men’s lightweight double sculls, securing the bronze medal at the Olympic Games with a time of 6:13.44. At the start of the race, they were in first place, but later fell to third. In the final meters, they made a sprint to try and “steal” the silver medal, but narrowly missed it, finishing almost neck and neck with the Italians.
They said..
“We followed the plan. For me, it was a perfect race. We stuck to the plan and gave it our all. Up to the 1000m mark, we responded to every move our opponents tried to make. They may have considered us as outsiders, but we had faith in ourselves and in each other.”
