Petros Gkaidatzis and Antonis Papakonstantinou delivered an outstanding performance in the final of the men’s lightweight double sculls, securing the bronze medal at the Olympic Games with a time of 6:13.44. At the start of the race, they were in first place, but later fell to third. In the final meters, they made a sprint to try and “steal” the silver medal, but narrowly missed it, finishing almost neck and neck with the Italians.
They said..
“I felt incredible. The adrenaline was through the roof. You’re racing in an Olympic final among very strong crews. We were considered outsiders, but we knew what we could achieve. The medal is the fruit of our efforts.”
